The Zambian Youth Platform with support from Global Fund through the Churches Health Association of Zambia (CHAZ) has continued to promote inclusive adolescent and youth empowerment through coordinated advocacy. Through the Integrated Health Services Project (IHSP), ZYP trained nine schools in three districts of southern province. Chikankata district (Dundu primary, Mwenda primary & Chikankata primary and secondary), Sinazongwe (Mweela primary, Airport primary and Chimonselo primary school) and Choma district (Shampande primary, Choma secondary and ST Patricks’ primary and secondary school).
During this period, over 180 pupils from across the three districts where trained in peer education. These trainings seek to address a number of issues surrounding teenage pregnancy, early marriages, STIs, HIV&AIDS, TB and Covid-19. ZYP believes that a well- informed young person is an empowered person. With the right information young people are able to make correct choices. As Zambian Youth Platform we envision a Zambia were young people are able to take responsibility by making better and improved decisions on issues of their sexuality.
This training was meant to build the leaners capacity in sexual reproductive health and rights as well as empower them with Life Skills. The schools were able to form life skills clubs. Going forward the trained peer educators will use the peer to peer approach to create awareness in their respective schools on various SRH issues.
